General Camper / Parent FAQ's
- When should I enroll my child? Do you have waitlist?
Lake of the Woods and Greenwoods Camps have a 90% return rate and space is limited. We encourage you to enroll as early as possible.
The Glen and The Grove have an open enrollment policy. Spaces are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. At The Glen, many age groups fill as early as October so we encourage you to enroll as soon as possible to ensure a space.

- This will be my child’s first summer away from home. What do I do if my child does not know anyone else going to camp?
Don’t panic! We always have a number of campers in the same situation. There are a few things that we do to help ease the process of coming to camp without knowing anyone:
1. We have a camp brother / sister program. Your child will have 2 brothers / sisters and will hear from them before coming to camp and will meet them at camp.
2. We host a party for all of our new campers so that your child is able to get to know other campers before arriving at camp.
3. We spend 1 week training our staff before your child arrives at camp. During staff training week, we discuss how to integrate all of the campers within the cabin and ensure that everyone is included and making new friends.
- What is the average age of the counselors and what is your staff : camper ratio?
We pride ourselves on taking the time to recruit the best, most mature staff to take care of our campers. The average age of our counselors is always a minimum of 21 and our overall staff : camper ratio is 1 : 3. This ensures that each of our campers receives individual attention and support to achieve their goals, develop a sense of independence and improve upon their social skills.
- Where do your campers and counselors come from?
Although we have a large number of campers from the Midwest, we are fortunate enough to draw from as far away as France; England; China; Mexico; Spain; and Puerto Rico. A little closer to home, we are represented by approximately 20 states each summer, including: New York; Arizona; Florida; California; Georgia, Colorado; and Wisconsin.
We recruit our staff from all over the world and are commonly represented by approximately 18 different countries each summer.
- If I have children at 2 of the camps or my child has a friend at a different camp; how much will they interact?
We have a 'Rest Hour Social' where campers from different camps can get together. They may also see a friend or relative passing to-and-from activities or at meal times. Daily activities and evening programs are separate for each of the camps.
- How will my child get to camp?
We offer chartered bus transportation from the Chicago area. Our bus service includes luggage transportation and lunch. Based on interest, we also offer buses from the Cleveland, Detroit suburbs.
- What do I need to pack for my child?
See our packing list. We provide all of the equipment for activities with the exception of riding boots, rollerblades, pads and helmets for rollerblading. You are welcome to pack equipment such as a tennis racket or baseball glove but these items are available at no additional charge.
- When and how is my child's activity schedule created?
Campers will create their own activity schedule prior to arriving at camp by completing an Activity Selection Form that you will receive in March. We guarantee campers their top choices and they have the opportunity to change their activities during the first week of camp.
- What if I can't remember my username and password to send my child ‘Bunk Notes’, view the photo gallery and the daily news?
- Can you provide me with references?
Absolutely! Please contact us and we will be happy to put you in touch with people from your area.
